A Prayer for a New Week

Another Monday, another fresh week, another opportunity to live right here right now.

Lord, you know how unfair we are to Mondays. You know our disdain for the beginning of a fresh new week. Monday often seem to be our enemy. We love our time at home, or away on vacations, our time away from the everyday grudge that is a week of work. For those of us who work a normal Monday-Friday schedule—you, O Lord, know, Monday’s serve as a reminder that we are back to work, work, work.

Help us to not be so harsh on Mondays. Help us to realize the gift that they are and to really live into our lives—for all that happens throughout our week is just as much a part of our life as our weekends, our time off. Help us to see the joy that is in a fresh new day and a fresh new week. Help us to come to Mondays and the new week ahead of us refreshed, renewed, and rested. Help us to meet Mondays as an old and dearly beloved friend.

God, for this Monday, we pray that you will be right here in it with us. We pray that you unveil joy in the most unlikely of places and the most likely of places. We pray delight be before us, behind us, and right alongside us.

Bless us this Monday and all the days of this week so we might be able to do the work you created and called us to do.

Today is Monday and we rejoice for you O Lord are truly here.

Amen.
